There is safety in numbers. • Avoid carrying too many packages. Being overloaded will make you an easy target. • Place all packages in the trunk of your vehicle, never in plain view on the seats. Make sure to put away all cell phone charger cords and GPS units. • Park near well-lit, high-traffic areas, not in dark isolated areas. • If you purchase big ticket items or large packages drive up close to the store to load them in your car. • Have your keys in your hand before you leave the safety of your store. • Walk in the driveways of parking lots rather than between cars. ... more

A few precautions can keep homes secure
Written by admin on October 19, 2009 – 1:04 am -Authorities offer tips amid rash of burglaries by Andrew Gaug Locking up a house before leaving is a good start to deterring potential thieves. But recent burglaries in St. Joseph have shown sometimes it may not be enough. Between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, the St. Joseph Police Department reported a 19 percent increase in home burglaries over that time span in 2008, with a total of 204 burglaries — which breaks down to about three per day. One victim, photographer Kyle Rogers, found door locks didn’t always work when a house he was living in was burglarized in August. While at work, Mr. Rogers received a call at about 12:15 p.m. from his roommate, informing him their home had been burglarized. Mr. Rogers raced home to find the burglars had attempted... more

Home security system can include alarm, motion lights, cameras
Written by admin on September 28, 2009 – 11:54 am -By Bill Husted, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution My interest in home security did not start until 5 a.m. on a nice summer day when a man with a baseball bat crashed through a glass door on my patio. It is not, as you would guess, the sort of wake-up call anyone would enjoy. Things turned out fine for me and, for that matter, for the burglar. He got away with a wallet he grabbed from the kitchen counter and I got away with life and limbs intact. I had a home alarm system but seldom turned it on back then.
